Film Night at the Hazelbury Bryan Village Hall on Saturday, 5 September 2026 will feature The Phantom of the Open.

Doors open at 6.45pm and the film starts at 7.30pm. Free entry with pay bar (cash and card), along with a raffle. There will be ice creams and ice lollies in the interval. All proceeds benefit the Hazelbury Bryan Village Hall. 

Subtitles will be used and a hearing loop is available. 

The Phantom of the Open tells the heartwarming true story of Maurice Flitcroft (Mark Rylance), a dreamer and unrelenting optimist. This humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness managed to gain entry to The British Open Golf Championship qualifying in 1976, despite never playing a round of golf before. He shot the worst round in Open history and drew the ire of the golfing elite, but became a folk hero in the process and, more importantly, showed his family the importance of pursuing your dreams.

Released in 2021 this British biographical comedy-drama directed by Craig Roberts and a stellar performance from Mark Rylance, turns a stranger-than-fiction true story into crowd-pleasing entertainment.

The film runs for 1 hour 46 minutes and received 86% from Rotten Tomatoes.
