Update on water main replacement, The Causeway and The Common, Hazelbury Bryan

Our ref: BR0022 – The Causeway, Hazelbury Bryan.
13/10/2023

Dear Customer

Update on water main replacement, The Causeway and The Common, Hazelbury Bryan.

Further to our letter to you in July of this year, I am writing to update you on the progress of the water main replacement taking place in The Causeway and The Common at Hazelbury Bryan and advise you as to the latter stages of the project.

As you may recall, this is an investment of nearly £300,000 in essential work to replace ageing pipes that are prone to bursting, replacing them with new plastic pipes to ensure you have improved water quality and a more reliable supply.

What have we done so far?
Work got under way in August and has proceeded well beyond the midway point, with more than 1400 metres of new pipe laid so far, mainly using largely trenchless techniques to date.

The Causeway and The Common has been closed to through traffic between Hazelbury Bryan village and Mill End Farm but, as a result of our progress, we expect to be able to reinstate the section of The Common road from King’s Stag to Silly Hill this week.

Next stage and how will the work affect you?
The next phase of the work will proceed down The Causeway, using open-cut methods.

The Causeway will remain closed to through traffic during this time, although access will be maintained for residents and businesses, including access to the Red Barn Shop, although it may be restricted at times. Please speak to our on-site team with any specific access requirements.

From Monday 23 October, as the work moves down towards the junction Partway Lane and Water Knap, access will be maintained from the King’s Stag end only. We are working closely with residents most directly affected as to their own access requirements. You can see the map of works here

Pedestrian access, via a footway access down the side of the work area, that will be passable for pushchairs and disabled access, will be maintained.
Alternative routes will be clearly signposted and are included on the attached map - and access will continue to be provided for emergency vehicles.
We expect the scheme as a whole to be completed, as per schedule, by Friday 24 November 2023.

We shouldn’t need to enter your property but, if we do, our staff carry identification which you should ask to see before letting them in.
There will be times when your water supply will be interrupted, but we will give you 48 hours’ notice of when this will be.

Anything else you need to know?
For security reasons, we will install an alarm system at our construction compound. If the alarm goes off when the site is unoccupied, or if you have any further questions about our work, please call 0345 600 4 600 or visit wessexwater.co.uk/contact-us
If you are a business or other non-household property you will need to contact your water retailer with any enquiries. You can find their contact details on your most recent water bill.

Need some extra support?
We know that some customers need extra help due to age, ill health, a disability, mental illness or additional needs. This may include easy access to water during a leak or outage, help reading your meter, or setting up a password for when we visit. You can register for Priority Services on our website at wessexwater.co.uk/priorityservices or call us on 0345 600 4 600.

We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while this essential project takes place and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by our work.

Yours faithfully

Egidijus Mockevicius
