Remembrance Sunday in Hazelbury Bryan
On Sunday 8th November the Nation will join in commemoration for the 99th Remembrance Sunday. This year COVID-19 restrictions will require some alteration to our traditional Service and Parade, although the intention is to keep as closely as regulations permit to the well-known format. Anyone self-isolating or showing COVID-19 symptoms must not attend.
This year’s Remembrance Service will be conducted in the open air by the Pavilion on Alec’s Field (NOT in the Church). The congregation is requested to gather from 1015 and the Service will commence at 1030. The congregation is reminded of the requirement to maintain social distancing – a distance of at least two metres between individuals or group bubbles, and groups to be of no more than 6. Wearing of face masks is recommended. Contact details will be taken for Test and Trace purposes. After the Service ends, the congregation will be able to walk the 50 metres to the War Memorial for the Wreath-Laying Parade.
The Wreath-Laying Parade at the War Memorial begins at about 5 minutes to 11 O’Clock with a short prayer and the reading of the names of the Fallen. At 11 O’Clock there will be the National Two Minute Silence followed by laying of wreaths and crosses. A uniformed military contingent from Bovington Garrison will be present. Members of the public are encouraged to lay wreaths or crosses on behalf of family members. Crosses are available in the poppy boxes at various locations in the Parish. Wreaths may be obtained from me (see below).
Just as with the earlier Service, the public is reminded of the requirement to maintain social distancing – a distance of at least two metres between individuals or group bubbles, and groups to be of no more than 6. Wearing of face masks is recommended. Contact details will be taken for Test and Trace purposes.
The three approach roads to the War Memorial will be closed to traffic as they are each year from 1045 to 1115. Cars, however, will be allowed to enter Alec’s Field and The Antelope car park from the west.
Sadly, there will be no Curry Lunch available in the Village Hall this year because of the virus, but The Antelope will be open (booking required).
