The View

The Old Causeway Bakery is the home of Sandra and Simon and is a really quite beautiful old house and bakery, which retains loads of period and quirky features. They have sumptuously decorated and comfortably furnished the house with family pieces as well as newly acquired items.  Set in the middle of the beautiful Blackmore Vale, in Thomas Hardy country, and surrounded by lovely old towns with glorious countryside and the coast within easy reach, there are many National Trust properties close by - plus historic hill forts and wonderful walks (even straight out of the garden!) and excellent bike rides all around.

The Old Bakery Wing is rather special as it is in effect a one bedroom cottage attached to the main house.  It is very private, access is via the rear hallway on the ground floor only, so effectively it has it's own front door.  It is luxuriously furnished, cosy and relaxing and comprises a large bedroom with king size bed, large bathroom with Jacuzzi bath as well as a separate shower, large sitting/dining room where breakfast is served to Bakery guests only, and a small kitchen, complete with fridge and facilities for making tea and coffee, which is all provided. There are French doors from the sitting/dining room to a covered patio for exclusive use of the Bakery guests. (If you bring your dogs this is a real bonus as the dogs can be let out at any time with ease!)  The Old Bakery wing has proven very popular with guests -  in particular the private sitting room, which allows guests to totally relax when not out and about.

In addition there are two lovely rooms in the main house: a large but cosy bedroom with a king size bed and an en suite shower room and another smaller, very pretty, double bedroom, with lovely views over the fields and an adjacent bathrooom with separate loo. These rooms have the use of a comfortable sitting room, with a TV +Freeview and a woodburning stove, for relaxing when not out and about.

Sandra and Simon look forward to welcoming you to their lovely home for bed and breakfast and hope to make your stay special.
Simon's breakfasts are really good!

The Old Malthouse

If you are searching for peace, tranquillity and wish to unwind in a rural backwater, 'Far From the Madding Crowd', then rest awhile at The Old Malthouse, in one of two self-catering cottages. A warm welcome awaits you from your Dorset born host, with stories of country folk and times gone by to tell.

The Old Malthouse is now a 17th Century private home, lovingly restored from its former origins and is presently operating as Bed and Breakfast accommodation.

The two L shaped single-storey cottages are completely separate from the main house with their own access, rural views and secluded garden and courtyard areas.

  • They have been converted from barns with originality and an eye for that traditional cosy, country feel.
  • The 2-acre property is in Droop, a quiet hamlet on the edge of the North Dorset village of Hazelbury Bryan, which nestles in gently rolling countryside within the heart of the beautiful Blackmore Vale.
THE BYRE
  • 2 double bedrooms: 1 four-poster, 1 double or 2 singles.
  • Bathroom and separate shower room.

CIDER HOUSE

  • 1 four-poster room, and the other with bunk beds suitable for children.
  • Good-sized bathroom.
Both cottages have through kitchen, lounge with open fireplace and dining area, with southerly aspect, overlooking fields.

NB: Heating costs are inclusive, electricity is metered.
